How to sign up for Student Organization Driver Training

  • Log in to ISU SOTA with your NetID and password 
  • Watch the training videos and complete the quiz with 90% correct
  • After you have successfully completed the Student Organization Driver Training Quiz, you are approved to drive all University vehicles for as long as you are an Iowa State student with a current approved motor vehicle record check with the exception of 15 passenger vans and towing a trailer, which require additional training.

  • Log in to Van & Trailer Lecture with your NetID and password
  • Search for "Large Passenger Van and Vehicles Towing Driving Training"
  • Watch the training videos and complete the quiz with 90% correct
  • To expedite entry of your name into our database, please email Transportation Services upon successful completion of the quiz

How to sign up for Van and Trailer Driving Observation

  • Upon completion of the Van and Trailer Lecture (above) you will be directed to a calendar to register for an Observation Session. If for whatever reason you do not Schedule an Observation Session immediately after the lecture - use this link:  ISU SOTA (ideal-logic.com)
  • Find a driving time that works with your schedule
  • Register to attend the driving session
  • If you are unable to find a session that works with your schedule, please email Transportation Services to arrange an alternate driving time

  • Enroll in Student Organization Driver Training in Learn @ ISU. Log in and click on "Course Catalog." Navigate down to the "Office of Risk Management" folder and expand it. Click "Launch" next to "Transportation Services - Student Organization Driver Policy and Safety Training." You will need to allow pop-ups in your browser for learn.iastate.edu.
  • Once you navigate to the course, you must watch the Student Organization Driver Training video, review the appropriate policies and procedures, and complete the online Driver Training quiz. You must score at least 80% to pass.
  • After you have successfully completed the Student Organization Driver Training Quiz, you are approved to drive all University vehicles for as long as you are an Iowa State student with a current approved motor vehicle record check with the exception of 15 passenger vans and towing a trailer, which require additional training.
